Project Brief

There are some cities that have a unique feel because of their history, landscape, location, memories, food, weather, etc. People go and have a “real life” experience enjoying all those traits.  Some of those cities have icons which help identify them in the media. Sometimes is the town Council who defines those Icons and sometimes are the tourists who decide what is special.   

In this specific project our reflection is to reset the Lisbon tram to update to the new needs and real use. 

The actual service is provided by a vintage coach with low capacity and which operation is expensive and can be uncomfortable because of the overdemand as an Icon.   

Our proposal aims to gain reliability, capacity, comfort and maintain the iconic character by giving a bespoke look compatible with the local avant-garde forward thinking cultural movements. Adding a very special and comfortable sightseeing experience in a large moving platform where social interaction is fluent as in the city streets. 

Simple and clean lines draw a shell that interacts with the architecture as a moving mirror, with the local transport graphics as to identify it with the others. Driverless has the maximum capacity and with a single extra wide access door for quick hop-on/-off, that also is accessible for Persons with Reduced Mobility. 

The real magic is inside, where city guests can enjoy a sightseeing tour inside a climate public space where many people can sit and being standing has the best possible view. An all-around sofa where the groups can sit together and interact with those who are standing having a “local terrace” environment.
